Hello, I’m Zoë McCreary, a filmmaker and photographer interested in utilizing my diverse skillset to bring creative ideas into reality. I specialize in film lighting, art direction, cinematography, and portraiture, but I am always open to trying new things.
Currently, I divide my time between Louisville, KY and Syracuse, NY, where I earned a degree in photography and art history from Syracuse University. I grew up in Massachusetts, Texas, New Jersey, and Ohio, bringing the total number of states I’ve called home up to six. Moving with my family to a new state every six years was challenging, but it opened my eyes to diverse communities and new ways to connect with others.
I’ve been making movies and taking photos for most of my life, but I fell in love with cameras through darkroom photography in 2015, my freshman year of high school. My first photo class, combined with my senior year film studies class, introduced me to a world where my quick thinking and attention to detail translates into visual problem-solving and thoughtful creative execution. Additionally, studying art history provided me with vocabulary and visual references to further enhance my work.
When I’m not on set, I’m usually sharing random fun facts, watching movies, working on a needlecraft project, cooking Korean food, or tending to my many houseplants.
